ABSTRACT

  Please read this GUIDELINE of abstract preparation before submitting your abstract. Abstracts that do NOT comply with this guideline may be rejected.

Guideline:

  1. Write abstract in English with font ‘Times New Roman 14’.
  2. Each abstract must include 4 elements: Title, Author name(s), Affiliation(s), and Abstract body.
  3. Title should be in all lower-case letters except the first letter of tile
  4. Author name begins with full first name then surname (NO academic degree) with notation of affiliation in superscript letter immediately after surname
    e.g. John Peterson1, Mary Anderson2
  5. Affiliation must be written as
    e.g. 1Department of Surgery, ABC Hospital, Bangkok
           2Trauma Unit, XYZ Hospital, Nonthaburi
  6. Abstract body must be written in the 5 following headings: Background, Objectives, Materials and Methods, Results and Conclusions – except an abstract for case report or VDO presentation that can be written in a narrative form.
  7. Abstract body must NOT contain more than 350 words.
  8. Abstract must NOT include table, figure, or reference.


Note:

  1. Deadline of abstract submission is 7 July 2021
    Except for Poster Award 15 November 2021 (midnight BKK time).
  2. The accepted abstract will be published in the congress abstract e-book as it is; so please ‘double’ check the content and typing errors before submission.
  3. Only the members of RCST and residents/fellows (with a certified letter from training institutes) will be eligible for any award contest.
  4. Residents/Fellows must submit a full paper along with an abstract before the deadline if you want to be included in ‘Resident Paper Award’ (contest). Otherwise, the abstract will be selected for oral presentation (Free Paper Presentation, non-contest).
  5. RCST 46 Contest Activity on 23 July 2021 at 08.30-16.30 hrs.
    All applicants have to record the presentation in English as a VDO clip and submit this VDO
    presentation via https://bit.ly/3h2BDiW within 15 July 2021. After that on 23 July 2021,
    all applicants have to join Zoom for 2-minute Q&A.
    Except for Poster Award, the presentation will be made in English at 01.30 p.m. on 5 December 2021 at the venue, Ballroom B&C 23rd floor.


Awards Guidelines and Criteria

The Executive Board of The Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand (RCST) recognizes the importance of scientific development in surgery and encourages its members (RCST members, surgical resident and fellow) to conduct surgical research and develop inventions in all forms. As incentives, RCST each year offers at its Annual Scientific Congress various types of awards as follows:

  1. Resident Paper Award
  2. VDO Award
  3. Young Investigator Award
  4. ACS Basic Science Award
  5. ICS Inventor Award
  6. Poster Award
  7. Pisith Viseshakul Award
  8. Free paper (Non-contest)


Eligibility:

  1. Applicants of all awards must register online before submission.
  2. Entries to the award must not have been previously published or received an award elsewhere. (except award or contest in his/her own institute)
  3. Each applicant must be a member of the RCST (except surgical resident/fellow in training for the Resident Paper Award).
  4. An entry is limited to one award only but is allowed to present in another non-contest session (Free paper Non-contest).
  5. There is no age limit for the applicant except an applicant for the ‘Young Investigator Award’ must be 45 years old or younger on the date of submission.
  6. As there is only one abstract submission form for all awards, applicant must indicate clearly for which award he/she wishes to apply and fulfill all regulations of the selected award.
  7. In case of no qualified entries, the contest committee reserves the right to not award any or all prizes.
  8. The research work must be conducted mostly in Thailand.
  9. The decision of the contest committee is considered final.
  10. Presentation must be made in English only.


Prizes and Awards:

  1. Resident Paper Award
    1. The prize is divided into two categories as follows:
      1. Basic Science Award
      2. Clinical Research Award
        Each category consists of three prizes as follows:
            First Prize – Baht 20,000
            Second Prize – Baht 16,000
            Third Prize – Baht 12,000
    2. A plague of honour will be awarded to the institute of each award recipient.
    3. Applicant must be a surgical resident/fellow of any subspecialty at the time the research was conducted.
    4. A certified letter from his/her institute including evidence of approval by the Research Ethics Committee, if necessary, must also be attached.
    5. Abstract and manuscript in publish-ready form must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
    6. The on-site presentation in English must be made on 23 July 2021 at 3rd floor at Royal Golden Jubilee Building, Soi Soonvijai, New Phetburi Road, Bangkok only. The time limit is 8 minutes plus 2-minute Q&A.
    7. The deadline for submission of abstract and manuscript is Wednesday, 7 July 2021.
     
  2. VDO Award
    1. There is only one category: Surgical technique
      The award consists of eight prizes as follows:
          First Prize – Baht 20,000
          Second Prize – Baht 15,000
          Third Prize – Baht 10,000
          Five Honorable Mentions – Baht 2,000 each
    2. Entries to the award must not have been previously presented at any international meeting.
    3. The length of the VDO must not exceed 8 continuous minutes (excluding 2-minute Q&A after the presentation) with clear narration in English (no background music).
    4. The VDO must be in MP4 format, resolution not less than 720p (1280x720) and the content of VDO must not show the face of patient or anything that can identify the patient.
    5. During VDO presentation the contestant must be present to answer questions of the contest committee and the audience on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee.
    6. To qualify for the award, the winner must achieve not less than 70% of the total scores.
    7. Abstract and manuscript in publish-ready form including the VDO must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration before Wednesday, 7 July 2021.
    8. The decision of the contest committee is considered final and the award-winning videos will be displayed on www.rcst.or.th.

     
  3. Young Investigator Award
    1. One Prize of Baht 10,000
    2. Applicant must be a general surgeon and a member of the RCST.
    3. Age limit not exceeding 45 years on date of submission.
    4. Abstract and manuscript in publish-ready form must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
    5. Presentation must be made in English on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee. The time limit is 8 minutes plus 2-minute Q&A.
    6. The deadline for submission of abstract and manuscript is Wednesday, 7 July 2021.

     
  4. ACS Basic Science Award
    1. One Prize of Baht 20,000 (in case of no qualified entries, two Honorable Mentions of Baht 5,000 each)
    2. Abstract and manuscript in publish-ready form must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
    3. Presentation must be made in English on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee. The time limit is 8 minutes plus 2-minute Q&A.
    4. The deadline for submission of abstract and manuscript is Wednesday, 7 July 2021.

     
  5. ICS Inventor Award
    1. Prize of Baht 10,000
    2. Abstract and manuscript in publish-ready form must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
    3. Entries, whether received an award or not, will remain the intellectual property of the contestant.
    4. Oral or VDO presentation and the invention must be presented at the RCST 46 Contest on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee. The time limit is 8 minutes plus 2-minute Q&A.
    5. The deadline for submission of abstract and manuscript including detailed description of functions and performance results of the device of invention (if any) as well as manuscript is Wednesday, 7 July 2021.

     
  6. Pisith Viseshakul Award
    1. The prize is divided into two categories as follows:
      1. Trauma Surgeon Award – Baht 10,000
      2. Surgical Resident Award – Baht 10,000
    2. The research theme must be trauma and should be presented in either oral, poster or VDO form.
    3. Presentation must be made in English on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee. The time limit is 8 minutes plus 2-minute Q&A.
    4. Abstract and manuscript in publish-ready form must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
    5. The deadline for submission of abstract and manuscript is Wednesday, 7 July 2021.
    6. Surgical Resident must also be attached a certified letter from his/her institute.

     
  7. Poster Award
    1. The prize is divided into two categories as follows:
      1. Basic Science Award
      2. Clinical Research Award
        Each category consists of three prizes as follows:
            First Prize – Baht 12,000
            Second Prize – Baht 10,000
            Third Prize – Baht 8,000
    2. Size of poster should be 90x120 cm. The contestant must prepare the poster him/herself and bring it to present at the RCST Annual Scientific Congress.
    3. Poster should describe the research and its results in poster form and focus mainly on content and form of the research.
    4. Poster presentation must be made at 01.30 p.m. on 5 December 2021 at the venue, Ballroom B&C, 23rd floor The time limit is 8 minutes plus 2-minute Q&A.
    5. Abstract must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
    6. The deadline for submission of abstract is Monday, 15 November 2021.

     
  8. Free paper (Non-contest)
    1. Entries to the award must not have been previously published or received an award elsewhere.
    2. Applicant must be surgeon, a member of RCST, surgical resident or a fellow.
    3. Presentation must be made in English only.
    4. Free paper presentation must be made on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee. The time limit is 8 minutes plus 2-minute Q&A.
    5. Abstract must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
    6. The deadline for submission of abstract is Wednesday, 7 July 2021.
