Welcome Message

President of The Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand

First of all, please accept my apology for the changing in pattern of the 45th Annual Scientific Congress of The Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand in conjunction with the 4th Joint Surgical Meeting with Ministry of Public Health and the 1st Joint Surgical Meeting with the National Health Security Office. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizing committee has much concerned with our members’ health and we need to support the government policy of keeping social distancing. This is why the 45th Annual Scientific Congress will be finally fully online, named “RCST Virtual Annual Congress 2020” to be held during 8-11 October 2020.

The congress theme is “Surgical Challenges in Transformative Era 2020”, combining the up to date and challenging science of medicine in the transformative era with all the creative elements required to become a good and great surgeon. We hope both young and experienced surgeons are able to adapt to the coming changes and enable patients to be fully benefited from technological advances.

The scientific program is the key of a successful congress. I must give my heartfelt appreciation to Professor Thawatchai Akaraviputh, our chairman of the scientific committee and Professor Vitoon Chinswangwatanakul, our Local Organizing Committee president, who have devoted many months to curate a top-notch scientific program. I would also like to thank the organizing committee for their excellent, hardworking and unstinting dedication to organize this congress.

At the congress, there will be many interesting sessions such as: cannabis in medicine, rural surgery in Thailand, one day surgery, and minimal invasive surgery. We will also have sessions from our co-host, the ministry of public health, and the National Health Security Office. The later co-host is our clearing house.

I am looking forward to welcoming all of you online during the congress.

Welcome Message

Chairman of the Organizing Committee

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 45th Annual Scientific Congress of The Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand, the 4th Joint Surgical Meeting with the Ministry of Public Health and the 1st Joint Surgical Meeting with the National Health Security Office during 8-11 October 2020. The theme of this year is entitled “Surgical Challenges in Transformative Era 2020”.

It is obvious to say that the whole world has rapidly changed with the disruptive technologies. The ways we think, we talk, we communicate and we live have expanded beyond what we have ever imagined. As a surgeon, one may not be able to work alone doing old fashion cutting. The advances and development in surgical technologies have never stopped since the ancient era. The innovations always aim for excellent outcomes and safety of patients. For decades, the movements in surgical modalities have changed from open access towards minimally access or minimally invasive surgery. The further steps of robotic surgery with the integration of virtual reality, augmented reality, sensorization technologies, artificial intelligence and internet of things are on the way. These novel technologies may need more evaluations before they could be adopted into the standard of surgical practice.

This year, we would like to persuade all members and colleagues to get together and participate with the most productive academic congress. Please visit the RCST website at “www.rcst.or.th” for more details.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in our 2020 Virtual Annual Congress.
