ABSTRACT GUIDELINE

Please read this GUIDELINE of abstract preparation before submitting your abstract. Abstracts that do NOT comply with this guideline may be rejected.

• Write abstract in English with font "Times New Roman 14".
• Each abstract must include 4 elements: Title, Author name(s), Affiliation(s), and Abstract body.
• Title should be in all lower case letters except the first letter of tile
• Author name begins with full first name then surname (NO academic degree) with notation of affiliation in superscript letter immediately after surname e.g. John Peterson¹, Mary Anderson²
• Affiliation must be written as ¹Department of Surgery, ABC Hospital, Bangkok ²Trauma Unit, XYZ Hospital, Nonthaburi
• Abstract body must be written in the 5 following headings: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results and Conclusions - except an abstract for case report or VDO presentation that can be written in a narrative form.
• Abstract body must NOT contain more than 350 words.
• Abstract must NOT include table, figure, or reference.

Note:

• Deadline of abstract submission is 8 June 2018 (midnight BKK time).
• The accepted abstract will be printed in the congress abstract book as it is; so please ‘double’ check the content and typing errors before submission.
• Only the members of RCST and residents/fellows (with a certified letter from training institutes) will be eligible for any award contest.
• Residents/Fellows must submit a full paper along with an abstract before the deadline if you want to be included in ‘Resident paper contest’. Otherwise, the abstract will be selected for oral presentation (non-contest).
• All presentation will be in English, including VDO presentation.
• Full registration is required along with abstract submission or before the deadline of abstract submission.

Awards Guidelines and Criteria

The Executive Board of the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand (RCST) recognizes the importance of scientific development in surgery and encourages its members to conduct surgical research and develop inventions in all forms. As incentives, the RCST each year offers at its Annual Scientific Congress various types of awards as follows:

1) Young Investigator Award
2) ICS Inventor Award
3) ACS Basic Science Award
4) Audio-Visual Presentation Award
5) Poster Presentation Award
6) Resident Paper Award
7) Pisith Viseshakul Award

Eligibility:

1. Entries to the award must not have been previously published or received an award elsewhere.
2. Applicant must be a member of the RCST (a surgical resident or a Fellow for Resident Paper Award).
3. An entry is limited to one award only, however it can be submitted for other non-contest sessions.
4. There is no age limit for the awards except for the Young Investigator Award which is 45 years.
5. As there is only one abstract form for all awards, applicant must indicate clearly for which award he/she wishes to apply and fulfill all regulations of the selected award.
6. In case of no qualified entries, the contest committee reserves the right to not award any or all prizes.
7. The research or work must be conducted mostly or wholly in Thailand.
8. The decision of the contest committee is considered final.

Prizes and Awards:

1. Resident Paper Contest
   • The prize is divided into two categories as follows:
     1. Basic Science Award
     2. Clinical Research Award
     
     Each category consists of three prizes as follows:
              First Prize - Baht 20,000
              Second Prize - Baht 16,000
              Third Prize - Baht 12,000
   • Abstract and manuscript in print-ready form must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
   • Applicant must be a surgical resident of any subspecialty at the time the research was conducted.
   • A certificate from his/her institute including evidence of approval by the Research Ethics Committee, if necessary, must also be attached.
   • Oral presentation in English must be made by the contestant on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee. The time limit is 8 minutes plus 2-minute Q&A.
   • A plague of honour will be awarded to the institute of each award recipient.
   • The deadline for submission of abstract and manuscript is Friday, 8 June 2018.
   
   
2. Audio-visual Presentation Award
   • The prize is divided into two categories as follows:
     1. Education Award
     2. Innovation Award
     Each category consists of three prizes as follows:
              First Prize - Baht 15,000
              Second Prize - Baht 8,000
              Third Prize - Baht 5,000
   • Audio-visual submission is limited to one category only.
   • Entries to the award must not have been previously presented at any international meeting.
   • Commentaries must be made in English and on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee.
   • Abstract and manuscript in print-ready form must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration by Friday, 8 June 2018.
   • The length of the VDO must not exceed 10 continuous minutes (excluding 2-minute Q&A after the presentation).
   • During VDO presentation the contestant must be present to answer questions of the contest committee and the audience.
   • To qualify for the award, the winner must achieve not less than 70% of the total scores.
   • The decision of the contest committee is considered final.
   • Award winning videos will be displayed on the RCST website.
   
   
3. Young Investigator Award
   • Prize of Baht 10,000
   • Applicant must be a general surgeon and a member of the RCST.
   • Age limit not exceeding 45 years on date of submission.
   • Abstract and manuscript in print-ready form must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
   • Presentation must be made in English on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee.
   • The deadline for submission of abstract and manuscript is Friday, 8 June 2018.
   
   
4. ACS Basic Science Award
   • Prize of Baht 20,000 (in case of no qualified entries, two Honorable Mentions of Baht 5,000 each)
   • Abstract and manuscript in print-ready form must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
   • Oral presentation in English must be made on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee.
   • The deadline for submission of abstract and manuscript is Friday, 8 June 2018.
   
   
5. ICS Inventor Award
   • Prize of Baht 10,000
   • Abstract and manuscript in print-ready form must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
   • Entries, whether received an award or not, will remain the intellectual property of the contestant.
   • Oral or audio-visual presentation and the invention must be presented at the RCST’s Annual Scientific Congress on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee.
   • The deadline for submission of abstract together with detailed description of functions and performance results of the device of invention (if any) as well as manuscript is Friday, 8 June 2018.
   
   
6. Poster Award
   • The prize is divided into two categories as follows:
     1. Basic Science Award
     2. Clinical Research Award
   • Each category consists of three prizes as follows:
           First Prize - Baht 12,000
           Second Prize - Baht 10,000
           Third Prize - Baht 8,000
   • Size of poster should be 90x120 cm.
   • Poster presentation must be made on date, time and venue assigned by the contest committee.
     It should describe the research and its results in poster form and focus mainly on content and form of the research.
   • Abstract must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
   • The deadline for submission of abstract is Friday, 8 June 2018.
   
   
7. Pisith Viseshakul Award
   • The prize is divided into two categories as follows:
     1. Trauma Surgeon Award - Baht 10,000
     2. Surgical Resident Award - Baht 10,000
   • The research theme must be trauma and should be presented in either oral, poster or audio-visual form.
   • Abstract and manuscript in print-ready form must be submitted to the contest committee for consideration.
   • The deadline for submission of abstract and manuscript is Friday, 8 June 2018.
